when in melbourne…where to stay

Depending on what you are willing and not willing to put up with …the Crown Metropol maybe for you!

Aesthetically the hotel is pleasing, spacious, minimal without being stark, arty without being uber-trendy, a large hotel without the stuffiness of standard chain hotels. A great location, with all the offerings of the city, and the South Melbourne/Albert Park precinct at your door step.

I will suggest people being lured to stay here because of the chic TVC shot for the hotel promotion that this is not indicative of the clientele nor the atmosphere you will experience. On occasion, quite possibly, on long weekends…not a chance in hell.

Rather than rant and rave about where expectations can fall down I will give you some simple suggestions in case you do stay here:

– DO stay in your room
– DO order in room service
– DO have patience with valet
– DO make plans to have breakfast off site, rather than at Maze
– If eating at restaurants at the Crown South Bank complex, leave the building and walk across the road rather than walk through the walkways provided
– Do visit St Ali near the intersection of Clarendon and Coventry St, on Yarra Place (or Lane) in South Melbourne
– Do eat at Koko’s, Nobu and Giuseppe Arnaldo and sons

We were fortunate enough to get a room on the 21st floor. What do you think of our views?

Well I am venturing over to Melbourne for the month of June to gain professional field experience in a Public Relations agency. I am looking forward to putting my knowledge into practice and showing to myself this is the right career industry for me!

Being in the fine city of Melbourne is not such a bad thing either, I will have a great opportunity to scope out all the new restaurants and bars that have opened since my departure over ten months ago.

I will be freighting myself,  my car and my life on the Overland train this Friday from Adelaide to Melbourne for a non-epic 12 hour journey.
